As a top Clearwater personal trainer, I’ve seen first hand how beneficial it is to address all aspects of your health, including nutrition. Today I’d like to talk a little bit about the relationship between nutrition and your personal fitness journey.

Clearwater Personal Trainer Explains the Importance of Nutrition

Firstly, it’s important to know that when I talk about nutrition, I am not talking about a diet. I don’t believe in dieting because just the word itself insinuates a temporary solution that’s focused on weight loss rather than health. I am talking about nutrition – learning how to give your body the nutrients that it needs to perform optimally so that you can live a healthier life and your body can function more efficiently.

So, How Do You Finetune Your Personal Nutrition For Better Physical Performance?

Eating to Compensate For Your Personal Obstacles to Fitness

Every person is unique as a whole. Yes, we all have the same basic functions, but we also all have different factors or obstacles that influence those functions. These factors influence our nutritional needs which in turn influence our physical performance and overall fitness.

For example, if you are someone who hopes to get into better shape but you also have regular muscle cramps, you may be afraid to train to your full potential. However, supplementing your diet with foods that are higher in magnesium content and adding a quality magnesium supplement can stop those cramps that are limiting your fitness activities.

Eating For Fuel Rather Than Enjoyment

Everyone enjoys a sneaky candy bar once in a while, a slice of cake, or a cookie, but it’s important not to overindulge and to see food in a healthy light. We enjoy sweets and junk food, but these things are empty calories, meaning that you’re getting very little “high quality” energy out of that food based on the calories in it. Now, I’m not saying that you shouldn’t treat yourself once in a while, but it’s very important to have a healthy relationship with food overall. Know that food has a purpose, that purpose is to provide your body with energy so that cells can perform their necessary tasks and you can feel healthy. When we see food as fuel, we tend to be more mindful of what we eat because we know that we feel better physically when our bodies are able to perform at an optimal level. When we overindulge in unhealthy foods because we simply enjoy the taste of them, we have an unhealthy relationship with food. We are eating for indulgence rather than to give our bodies the fuel that it requires to perform at a maximum level.

You don’t have to limit yourself to only eating “premium fuel” all of the time – in my opinion, that’s just not feasible for most people – but being more mindful of the benefit that certain foods and nutrients provide helps us to make better choices and feel better!
