As a Tampa personal trainer, I always like to remind my clients about the importance of getting the most out of every training session. This can mean different things for different people, but today I want to share a few of my own tips to get the most out of a training session with your personal trainer.

Tampa Personal Trainer: Tips For a Better Training Session

As I already mentioned, what makes a great training session truly depends on the person being trained, but here are a few of my tips to get the most out of your time with your trainer.

Hydration

It’s a simple thing but one that SO MANY people neglect in their everyday lives as well as when it comes to training.

The human body is 50 to 60% water and to function at a healthy level the National Academy of Sciences had found that women need an average of about 2.7 liters (91 ounces) of water and men need an average of about 3.7 liters (125 ounces) per day. (Source) It’s crucial that you keep your body well hydrated at all times, but particularly when you are planning to hit the gym. On average it’s recommended that during a training session you should drink at least 7 to 10 ounces of water per 10 to 20 minutes of exercise – more if it’s a particularly high-intensity workout.

Failing to stay hydrated can cause you to feel a whole host of negative side effects as well as set you up for failure during your training session. If your body doesn’t have the fluids or electrolyte balance needed to perform normal functions, you can hardly expect it to go above and beyond in the gym!

Warm-Up and Stretch!

Give your muscles a chance to limber up before you jump right into your training session. Failing to warm-up or stretch puts you at higher risk of injury and injury means recovery time which will set back your progress considerably. So take your time and really make sure that your body is as ready as your mind is to begin your training session!

Slow and Steady

When it comes to the time that you spend working those muscles (whether you are working out with a personal trainer or not), take each exercise slow and steady and really pay attention to the movement of your body. Rushing through your workout isn’t going to benefit you at all, in fact, rushing through your workout makes it more likely that you will injure yourself.

Fuel Your Body For Your Workout

Most of us know not to hit a burger joint right before we head out for a training session, but there is more to proper nutrition than this. In order to promote a healthier you, you need to give your body the right kind of fuel to create that healthier you. Eat plenty of fresh foods and proteins to give your body clean energy sources and promote healthier muscle growth and better fat burning.
